We are not antique dealers, so we are not experts.  Frankly we buy what we love to have and look at.  We can't verify age (I don't imagine most can).  We trust the people we buy from who describe it as old, vintage or antique.

RARE 19TH CENTURY SIGNED PENNSYLVANIA FARM SIFTER,1880s.  $92.00

An outstanding primitive 19th century Pennsylvania farm-found grain sifter of grand size and extremely rare bluestroke decoration. Found in the Blue Mountain region of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, this fabulous antique lay just miles from it`s place of origin in the town of Slatington in nearby Lehigh County.A very large sifter that measures 19 1/2 inches across and retains the original old nails, iron straps and screening. Decorated in blue brushstrokes much in the manner of an old stoneware crock with the place of manufacture, Slatington,Pa. Constructed of superbly aged hardwood, probably oak, with great wear and original patina to please the lover of farm-fresh,untouched primitives. It even bears the area of early loss of wood to one side that apparently was done by a teething field mouse finding a comfy home in the old barn! The bluestroke decoration is extemely rare to find, and what a great plus that leaves us capable of knowing exactly where this beauty was made sometime about the 1880s!It was found at a country flea market in the farming communities of Northampton, barely 20 miles from it`s original home.Conditon is just as we like, original and bearing great age and primitive charm. Nice aged darkening of the iron bindings and old nails,a warm mellow glow to the wood. Several small pulls in the old screen attesting to age and adding to the farm used appeal. Some fading to the bluestroke enscription, but perfectly legible and done in the great cursive writing of the disciplined hand of post Civil War American school. What a grand primtive to add to the wall of a country Pennsylvania kitchen. What a beautiful old farm implement that bears the bluestroke decorations we find so attractive in the salt-glazed crocks we love. Period circa 1880.

Very nice primitive hickory-split basket dating from the late 1800's.

The entire basket has a beautiful patina & that on the hand-notched split hickory handle is especially nice. The maker obviously took great pride in his or his work.

Over-all, this fine old basket is very sturdy, however, it was also well-used in its lifetime. There is some broken loss at the bottom "edge" & the split rim has been repaired at some point with a wire wrapped & woven to hold intact.  It is 11" in diameter and 6" deep. It measures almost 10" at the top of the bent-wood handle.  $74.00
