This is our hutch table sometimes also called a flip top table. When not in use the table top swings up to form a chair back. These tables were very useful in early America. Because of the limited space in houses a table that could be pushed up against a wall and used as a seat when not needed as a table were very valuable. The seat of the chair is also hinged so that it also can be lifted up to reveal a small storage space underneath. The one in the main picture shown here is painted in the barn red milk paint with a walnut stained pine top.
