This knife tray is modeled after a very pretty knife tray found in Wallace Nutting’s A Furniture Treasury. This book is considered the bible of American colonial furniture. The knife tray is constructed of solid pine, hand planed down to 1/2″ thick. The sides are joined with hand cut dovetails which are very difficult to execute in a piece such as this, one that includes a compound bevel. In other words the sides are canted at 15 degrees in one direction and at 7 degrees in the other. The scroll work is of exceptional design. Overall a very special piece. This one is shown in lexington green with medium distressing.
