This knife tray is modeled after a very pretty one found in Wallace Nutting’s A Furniture Treasury. It’s a book that is considered the bible of American colonial furniture. The sides are joined with hand cut dovetails which are very difficult to execute in a piece such as this one that includes a compound bevel. In other words the sides are canted at 15 degrees in one direction and at 7 degrees in the other. The scroll work is of exceptional design. Overall a very special piece. This one is shown in lexington green with medium distressing.
