New England Blanket Chest
We call this the New England blanket chest. It was a common form in colonial America, an evolution from the basic six board blanket chest. Furniture makers began adding drawers beneath the blanket storage space. Soon they started adding false drawer fronts above the real drawers and eventually they got rid of the blanket well and made all the drawers real, hence the name “chest of drawers”. We created ours with bun feet and two drawers. This one is painted with a two color finish, barn red over black. It also includes contrasting black top, bottom molding and bun feet.
