New England Blanket Chest
We call this the New England blanket chest. It was a common form in colonial America, an evolution from the basic six board blanket chest. Furniture makers began adding drawers beneath the blanket storage space. Soon they started adding false drawer fronts above the real drawers and eventually they got rid of the blanket well and made all the drawers real, hence the name “chest of drawers”. This one features bun feet and a bold paint combination. the body is red over black and the trim and top are left just black. Shown with medium distressing.
