Spade Top Box
This spade top box is a reproduction of an antique candle box. The spade on top of the back is mirrored in a cutout on the front of the box giving this candle box a very sophisticated look for a primitive piece. It is made of thin solid pine and hand planed to match it’s antique ancestor. These little wall boxes were probably used most often to hold candles. A constant supply of candles was very important to the early American household of course. This one is painted in tavern green milk paint with medium distressing.
